Bella Swan nedokáže uveriť svojmu šťastiu: Po strašnom zážitku pred pár mesiacmi, z ktorého ledva vyviazla živá, sa všetko upokojilo a ona môže plne vychutnávať život s jej jedinou láskou, Edwardom. V tom však zasiahne do jej šťastia nebezpečná udalosť, keď ju člen Edwardovej upírskej rodiny napadne a takmer pohryzie. Edward, uvedomiac si akému nebezpečenstvu Bellu denne vystavuje, ju presvedčí, že ju už nemiluje a že odchádza s celou rodinou z Forksu. Po jeho odchode Bella upadá do ťažkej depresie na niekoľko mesiacov. Znovu stretne Jacoba Blacka, mladého chlapca z neďalekej rezervácie, ktorý je to nej zaľúbený. Bella jeho city neopätuje, stále sa nespamätala zo straty Edwarda, Jacob jej však pomáha vynoriť sa zo smútku a depresií, a Bella s ním trávi čo možno najviac času. Sám Jacob je však ďalším nadprirodzeným stvorením v Bellinom živote: Vlkolakom. Pomaly sa zbližujú, keď zasiahne osud: Nastane hrozné nedorozumenie a Edward sa dopočuje o Bellinej údajnej smrti. Je rozhodnutý vziať si život a Bella je jediná, ktorá mu v tom môže zabrániť... |
